Our theme for 2012 is “When I Hear Music, I See Colour’’

Our goal is to imprint impact and impress upon you through this year’s exhibit the
correlation between hearing music and perceiving or glimpsing colourful impressions.
We hope this theme excites and arouses your imagination, to limitless possibilities through art, music and photography.
We challenge you to tap your inner sensitivity to see colour when you hear music.
Do you see what we hear?
Will we see what you hear?

ELIGIBILITY

The Artists of Colour are searching for visual artists and sculptors of African-Canadian descent to present their visual message. The theme as stated above is
” When I Hear Music, I See Colour’’
We encourage all artists to write a description and explanation of any of your work that has been created specifically for this year’s them” When I Hear Music, I See Colour”.
Please include an explanation of your piece to be displayed along with it. All work must have attached with it the title of the piece, artist’s name, price if for sale, and the medium used.

All sculptures must be self-supported and be installed and taken down by the artist. All artwork is to be is to be delivered and picked up on the specified day by the artist. The Artists of Colour will not assume any responsibility for unattended art.
All works must be original and created by the applicant. Artwork & Display-
Applicants guarantee that all artwork and cottage edible products displayed is their own original creation. Buy-Sell products are not allowed. The Artists of Colour has the right to refuse participation without refund. Compositions based on published material or other artists' works are NOT considered original. No copyright infringements please.

Wall space allotted for each artist will be twelve by five feet. The committee will allow artists who have been selected to submit more pieces as space allows. All submitted artwork must be ready-to-hang. Sculptures and 3D works must be accompanied by their own base or pedestal.

Categories - Artists who wish to apply in one or more than one category must submit separate applications for each category, along with the processing fees and images required for each category. The Artists of Colour requires a separate and distinct profile for each.

PREPARING YOUR ENTRY

Your Photos are lmportant!
Jurors who review your artwork are looking for originality, quality and consistency in your ideas, execution and design. They make their decisions based on what they see in your images. I{ your images are loo dark, out of focus or improperly coloured, the jurors will not be able to adequately assess your work and they may reject your application as a result" lf you don't have experience with
making images, we strongly suggest asking a friend or hiring a professional
photographer. lf this is not an option, here are a few tips for optimizing your results.

1. Photos should be taken in a bright, evenly-lit room or outdoors on a sunny day. Use a backdrop draped in black or white cloth behind your work to show it to its best advantage.
2. Do a test, Practice using your digital camera in different lighting to get the truest image.
3. lf your work is framed or has a glossy surface, to avoid glare, do not use flash on your camera.


All entries must be submitted in digital form, accompanied by an official entry form. You may email or post your completed entry form and three to five digital images of your work to be juried. Your entries should include a separate sheet that gives the title and dimensions of each image. Image files cannot exceed 500KB or a height or width greater than 800 pixels.

The file format must be JPEG.

SALE OF ART WORK

All artists will be allowed to sell their work if they so choose. All work must remain on display until the show concludes February 21, 2012. Any sales of any works resulting from the show will be subject to a five per cent commission paid out to the Artists of Colour.

EXHIBITION FEE

The entrance fee for all artists in this show will be Forty Dollars. Payment by check is to be made out to The Artists of Colour

DEADLINE

All entry forms must be postmarked no later than November 30, 2011.

JUDGING & NOTIFICATION

Entries will be judged. Successful applicants will be notified by December 20 2011. At that time, your entry fee will be due. All money received will be processed immediately, as we cannot accept postdated payments.
