Dennis K. Smith Fine Artist
For over sixty years, Smith has been visually vocalizing his story through art. If his artwork could be characterized in vocal styling terminology, he would consider himself a "crooner." an ironic term denoting an emphatically sentimentally in his depictions of his subjects. His work projects honesty, simplicity and serenity that cause one to stop and take time to connect with the painting and its message. Art for Dennis has to reflect the inherent nature of the artist and have reason for its creation. Smith gives credence to the fact that creativity will change that which has been reduce and pasted over as ordinary and common place, into extraordinary works of art. He has exhibited in juried shows, group and solo exhibitions. His block prints were exhibited in the Canada - Japan Exchange Print Exhibition. Dennis conducts workshops as well as open classes within his LaSalle studio. Co- founder and president of The Artists of Colour

Connie Lee-Turner Fine Artist
Connie Lee-Turner was born and raised in Windsor, ON. After being intrigued by the many styles of art and the use of so many mediums used to produce it, Connie decided to take art lessons as a hobby. That hobby has now become her artistic voice which gently speaks with honesty and sincerity about the subjects which she depicts in her paintings. Connie is no longer hobbyist but a working artist who continues to elevate her work to another level. Connie is a charter member of The Artists of Colour.
Norte Dame Basilica
The immense stone building Norte Dame Basilica of Montreal was built from 1824 to 1829 in the Romantic Gothic revival style. It features massive twin towers and a Gothic arch recessed portico. This beautiful, majestic church inspired me to put it on canvas. I hope I have captured that drama that the light will produce when it is cast upon an object and its path reshapes a whole new perspective of our subjects while furthering our knowledge of it.

To illuminate or enlighten is to give insight, power. Slave owners knew how dangerous it could be to allow that power to be initiated. Therefore, for slave owner’s protection Anti literary laws were in force in the United States during the American Civil War in Virginia, the consequences for teaching slaves to read, was corporal punishment for the offender, at the discretion of any justice of the peace, not exceeding twenty lashes.

Fatma Boraie Fine Artist
The Artists of Colour welcome for the first time Fine artist Fatma Borarie to this years show. "In Cairo, Egypt, while watching her mother paint Islamic pattern and Turkish motifs on glass, Fatma started drawing at a young age. Later on, as part of her undergraduate degree, she completed several art classes. Her early projects were still life compositions using charcoal and oil pastels. Currently, she uses acrylics to paint landscapes. It’s a medium that allows her to experiment and try different techniques.
Inspired by impressionism and the Canadian group of seven, Fatma’s favorite art work is Tom Thomson’s Northern River, a convoluted painting. Yet recently, she seems at odds with herself being so drawn to Lawren Harris reductive and almost abstract style of landscape painting. Fatma lives in Windsor with her husband and two boys."

Darcelle Turner Photographer
Darcelle Turner was born in Detroit, Mich. Photography is one of her great loves, to capture the moment or the essence of the moment. She is particularly fond of Black & White. Photography has been a hobby for many years, with a leaning toward the preference for photographing landscape. Went to Hawaii one year and while taking pictures had to remind herself to include her travel companions in some of the shots. She's not had any formal training but has honed her skills through simply shooting. She has picked up pointers here and there and is expanding her knowledge. She lives in Auburn Hills, Mich with her family.

Daphne Curtis Fine Artist
Daphne Curtis is a retired judge who would often say that the only thing she could draw is a stick figure. Over the last two years Daphne has shown that she can draw much more than sticks. She has shown that she can harness her inner emotions and render thought-provoking figures and forms.
The intricacy of her art work is a tribute to her commitment to detail and complexity. It shows that in each of us our talents lie below the surface just waiting to be expressed.

Loretta N. Brown, Fine Artist
The Artists of Colour welcome for the first time Fine artist Loretta N, Brown to this years show.
Loretta realized early in life, as did her parents and siblings, that she had a gift! Loretta could draw! Growing up in the early 1960”s in the small town of Lake Charles, La., drawing and coloring with Tempera paints was as natural to Loretta as learning her ABC’s! Her proudest memory was replicating the image of Yogi Bear on a large poster in 3rd grade! Her teacher remarked, Loretta you’re a very talented little girl! Fast forward to today, Art, for Loretta, is simply storytelling. Loretta says “It’s reflective… our joy, our pain, our fantasy and our truth. For those of us fortunate enough to create art, we’re provided a profound opportunity to see ourselves, and others, inside and out.”
