Wanda Lillian Relf - Fine artist
Wanda Relf is a 25-year-old artist living in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Developing a fascination and deep admiration for the arts as a child, she has continually honed her skills and comprehension of various techniques and mediums. She has volunteered for Artists of Colour shows for several years and is the youngest member of The Artists of Colour. She has been working under the inspirational direction of Dennis K Smith from a young age and, is currently working towards a BFA in visual art from the University of Windsor.
The artist prefers to work with watercolour and acrylics but has experience with oil paint and other mediums. Being inspired by art movements like Post Impressionism, Naïve Art, Art Nouveau, and the world around her, Wanda blends elements and her imaginative vision into her work. For her, art is a way of speaking. It is a view inside her mind, and she believes that to observe art is, to have a conversation with the artist and the senses. Wanda is a descendant of Levi Foster, who fled slavery in the USA and moved to Amherstburg, Ontario, in 1838. He was the proud owner of various businesses, as well as being very involved in his church and community. Particularly, the prospect of guidance and support for freedom seekers in Canada. Daughter of Levi, Annie Foster-Hyatt, was the owner of Hyatt’s Greenhouses in Windsor, and whose portrait is proudly displayed, alongside other Black Historical Figures of Windsor, in Paterson Park, located in Old Sandwich Town. |
