Illumination 2019
Barbikath Smith Great event planning! I enjoyed the opening program, which was perfect in length, and the reception, with plenty of refreshments and piano selections. Chatting with several persons I had not seen in a while was wonderful. However, time got away from me and I did not see as much of the art as planned, including multi-talented Carole’s Healing Wall. Our children grew up together and I had hoped to see her. So, another visit this week to see entries from all the talented artists that were introduced, is a must!

This Event is an absolutely outstanding display of various genres of artistic expression. It is obviously a well organized unique opportunity to showcase the talented works of artist of colour from international locations. Whatever your roots are you can enjoy it. Voila!
Opal .....I am very proud of the Artists of Colour Event. I retired from the Detroit Institute of Arts. I worked there for 20 years, so events like Artists of Colour Show is very encouraging to me.

My family and I attended this afternoon and had a wonderful time. The talent that exists in our community is a beautiful thing that deserves more exposure. Each piece of art told a story and it was so nice to be able to share the stories with my daughter, sister, and mother. The history in some of the pieces was phenomenal and at times, emotional. This would be an awesome field trip...do schools attend? Thank you to all of the artists for sharing your talent and knowledge with me and my family. We had a wonderful time.

My journey from Toronto to Windsor, Ontario on Friday February 6, 2009 to attend the opening of “Threads Through Time” a multidimensional, interdisciplinary exhibition of visuals, literary texts, film and music by artists of colour continues to inspire. Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre and Common Ground Gallery, the venue for the eleven day exhibit, showcases twenty-five artists. The range and depth of the works is impressive.
Clearly, this exhibition demands multiple visits. What a feast to chat with the artists and the many in the large gathering of art lovers.

Wherever I go this week, I keep running into people who saw the Courage of Creativity exhibition this past weekend and who were just amazed. I really want to congratulate you and the committee on doing an even more awesome job this year than you have in previous years.
To anyone who has not had the opportunity of viewing some of our truly talented local Artist of Colour you should make every effort to pay a visit to the exhibit at McKenzie Hall 3277 Sandwich Street. It runs from 2/5/10 to 2/16/10.

Carmen Carter This has been the most awesome FAMILY DAY ever! I am feeling overwhelming gratitude for The Artists of Colour Exhibit and participants who created and organized the most exciting fun-filled workshops for the youth. Thanking God for the strength and endurance to escort 3 of my beautiful grand babies to Mackenzie Hall to view the many magnificent works of art and participate in the hands-on workshops that allowed them to rotate through the 4 stations where the children were guided through steps to unlock their creativity while learning how to express themselves in telling stories through music, creative writing poetry, photography and art. Thank you all for the most wonderful day through this awesome learning experience.
Marijke Warners, Windsor On Family Day, the group, The Artists of Colour, had an art show and also a workshop for children at Mackenzie Hall in Sandwich. I took my grandsons, aged 7 and 9, and when I heard they would be there for two hours, I wondered what I would do in the meantime. Well, not to worry. The children were divided in four groups and went through four programs - music, poetry, drawing and photography. Since the boys were in different groups, I kept going between the two to see what they were doing and also wanted to view the art exhibition. This group did a wonderful job trying to bring out the creative side of the children and I thought it was very well done. The exhibition was also impressive and all the works were done by local artists. My hat off to you, Artists of Colour, and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

"It is essential to keep our local history and our heritage alive and to celebrate our past with art, which we can all understand despite our differences, our language, our customs, and that is why I support The Artists of Colour in everything they do."

Councilor, City of Windsor
"The Artists of Colour begin in existence for only three years have contributed greatly to the knowledge of the Historical Sandwich Baptist Church terminus of the underground railway. They have our utmost support and respect."

"Mackenzie Hall comes alive with the diverse and international crowd that The Artists of Colour exhibition attracts each February. People of all ages, backgrounds and cultures drop by to learn about the artists and their art. As a former educator, I am impressed with the sessions that are held to inform visitors about art history, current activities and future movements. It has been a pleasure to see the exhibit grow over the years from a weekend show using three rooms to an exhibit that now runs a week and incorporates two floors of the Hall. Its success is inspiring." Gloria Jung,
A renewed sense of excitement fills the air when the Artists of Colour hold their annual show at Mackenzie Hall. The group and their exhibits have such positive effects upon members of the community whether encouraging participation in the show or stirring the curiosity of those attending to search out more information through the exploration of history.
At a time when Windsor and many of its surrounding communities are dealing with job losses and the economic decline, the Artists of Colour and their show bring hope, encouragement and a sense of worth and opportunity to all who witness it. Ronald Jones : Councilor, City of Windsor August 29, 2010
