2008 The Colour of Art By Artists of Color
Despite living in a world of profiling and cultural contrast, physically and emotionally imprisoned by the laws of black and white, the spirit of the black man has remained free. Through the creative insight and passion of these artists, our people have presented their gifts, skillfully and creatively to supplant the limitations of poverty and ignominy. We have expressed ourselves in the vibrant and fertile colours of our African ancestors.
We as black artists honour the artists whose vision gave us insight into their pain, into their joy and we join them in our artistic endeavor to tell our story and to give praise to God through our own artistic representations of His glorious creation. We dedicate this exhibit to the artists whose works that, sadly, to many, were invisible. Within the works of the black artists of the past and present we can develop a greater understanding and appreciation of how we, as a people, view ourselves and our world in terms of our own realties. In a world of black and white we celebrate colour! |
