2009 Threads Through Time
February 6 - 17, 2009
Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre & Common Ground Gallery
3277 Sandwich Street West, Windsor, Ontario N9C 1A9
The passage to freedom was marked by the coded messages within the quilts that guided escaping slaves to the safe houses of the Underground Railroad.
The visual message of black artists and writers, past and present, tells a story, obvious to some, concealed from others. Sandwiched between the layers of paint and ink is a visual statement speaking of suffering, unity, family, hope and progress.
